Children’s Ministry Happenings for Week Ending October 1, 2017

Our church is taking a team of people up to Church of the Resurrection for Leadership Institute this Wednesday. It provides an opportunity for church leaders to dream big, and some of the things we are currently doing are a result of this conference (especially some of our service endeavors, like our Skelly partnership). Please pray for our leaders as we consider the next faithful steps for our church!

Tribe 1 (4th-6th grades)

Small group time (Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m.): We have been talking about why it’s so hard to get along with our family members this month, with a particular focus on sibling relationships this past week (ask them about Cain & Abel, eek!). This week, we’ll expand on that conversation a bit by grappling with the question Why Can’t I be an Only Child?

Serve time (Wednesdays, 5-6 p.m.): We now have a fully functional plan for some bench seating for some of the groups who meet at the church and for passers by. We will be heading to Sutherland’s to pick up materials. If you haven’t yet registered your kids for this year’s children’s activities, please do so by clicking on this link. We will be traveling this week (only to Sutherland’s!) but we need permission to transport. Thank you.

Sunday morning: From about 10-10:30 this Sunday morning, Pastor Andrew will be teaching the kids about communion: the prep work, the serving, and the clean up. If you have a child who is interested in serving communion, please have them meet in the sanctuary after first service. We will put the kids who are ready to lead this important sacrament on a schedule; please understand that we will only put kids on the schedule who we think are ready. At 10:30, our kid praise band will start practicing their program for Christmas!

Tribe 2 (K-3rd)

Sunday morning stuff (10-11 a.m., Sunday School, 11-11:45 FirstKids Worship): Our younger crew has been learning about the kings of Israel, starting with Saul and moving on to David. We have experienced what it is like to be anointed with oil, and have explored the question “what makes a good king?”.  During the month of October, we’ll be learning more and more about King David and how God used him to do His work.

Serve time (Wednesdays, 5-6 p.m.): This past week we made cards of encouragement for a Wichita Police Officer who was severely injured on the job last spring. We also helped clean up the playhouse and play yard so kids who come and use the equipment could have a better experience. They worked hard and did great! There will NOT be Serve time this week for our Tribe 2 kids as I’ll be out of town. Still, please register here so that we have all the permissions we need.

Nursery

Our nursery kids have been learning about Hannah and babies this month, and will start learning about David and Jonathon and what it means to be a good friend during October. We are seeking a few more volunteers to hang out with the nursery kids from 10-11 on Sunday mornings; there isn’t a lesson during this time, so it’s basically playing with the kids for an hour! Please let me know if you can help fill this need.

Thank you for the privilege of working with your kids, they continually amaze me with their loving and compassionate hearts.

Blessings,

Valecia Scribner
