Young Adult Summer Small Group – Starting June 9

You are invited to grow in your faith with our new Young Adult Summer Small Group on Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM beginning June 9 and running through August 11. Plan to bring $10 on June 9 to help cover the cost of our book, The Good and Beautiful God by James Bryan Smith. This book is designed to guide us in a process of becoming like Jesus. We will look at our competing narratives about God and test them against the God Jesus revealed. As we come to know the God that Jesus knows, it is natural for us to fall more deeply in love with God.

Vision 2019 for First United Methodist Church

“I am not afraid that the people called Methodist should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit and discipline with which they first set out.”
- John Wesley, “Thoughts Upon Methodism,” (1786)

Background

Our church was founded in 1869 and in 2019, we will celebrate our 150th anniversary as a congregation. We continue the faithful work of previous generations who have sought to be a church that welcomes everyone to worship, grow, give, serve and share as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Vision 2019 Proposal

A Vision 2019 team will be formed to make plans to celebrate our 150th anniversary in a way that that will honor the past, reintroduce our church to those in the community who are not familiar with us and help us prepare the next 150 years of fruitful ministry.  This team will consist of 12 to 15 people who will engage our entire congregation in a process of prayer, study, conversation and dreaming during the summer and fall of 2013 which will result in proposal for consideration at our annual State of the Church Conference at the end of 2013.

This process will have implications across the entire life of the church including, but not limited to:

  • Worship design and implementation
  • Christian spiritual formation for children, youth and adults
  • Finance, stewardship and budgeting process
  • Missions focus outside the walls of the church, both inside and outside El Dorado.
  • Efforts to share the good news of Jesus Christ with new people
  • Staffing priorities
  • Plans for property, building and grounds
  • Committee structure

Nominations

Nominations are open now and will close on June 9. No single person or group will be able to make this happen, but arm in arm we will move into the future together.

If you or someone you know would be interested in participating in the vision team at First United Methodist Church, please complete the form below. You may nominate yourself.
